A Vital Community Resource

Statistics from the most recent reporting period support the value of the Neighborhood Family Center concept and are truly outstanding. Click here to see. The ten Neighborhood Family Centers located throughout Pinellas County are providing important programs and resources at the neighborhood level. Organized and driven by the community, each Center provides services specific to the needs of local residents. A $2 million annual investment by the Juvenile Welfare Board in these exciting programs is paying great dividends, as communities and individuals alike are strengthened and provided with additional resources for the future.

The statistics for the fiscal year 2001-2002 support the value of the Neighborhood Family Center concept and are truly outstanding:

COUNTY WIDE
4767 individuals received direct services.
1727 people received a GED
1261 people from pre-schoolers to senior citizens increased their computer literacy
640 youth attended an after school tutoring and/or homework assistance program
699 youth participated in leadership development programs
1807 families were provided with resources during a crisis
1740 families were helped during the holidays with food and/or gifts
344 grandparents attended a kinship support group
43,000 people accessed information and referral services
418 parents attended a parenting skills enrichment program
1688 individuals received job and career development assistance

In addition
Neighborhood Family Centers received support from:
135 businesses
18 foundations
50 government agencies

And collaborated with
26 schools
151 other non-profit agencies
25 faith based organizations

The economic impact of the Neighborhood Family Centers is equally impressive:
Capital investments of $3,830,667 either made or committed
$1,297,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds are included in the total investments
Grants and other “outside” support totaling $1,064,543 in FY 2001-2002
